3 Easy fixes for your most boring outfits

Everyone has those I-have-nothing-to-wear-even-though-my-closet-is-full-of-clothes days. You know logically you have plenty of clothes, but nothing seems to be working together. You eventually end up running out of time and rushing out of the house the boring outfit you had on to start with.

But you don't have to look boring! These are my 6 best tricks to improving any outfit without really trying that hard.

Boring outfit #1: The solid sweater and jeans

It's late October, and it's 40 degrees at the hottest part of the day. Your first instinct tells you to put on a sweater and you wanna be comfy in your favorite jeans, but this look is so...blah.
A lot of people would suggest throwing on a scarf and calling it a day, which is probably better than nothing, but I think we can do better than that.

Easy fix: Wear a collared shirt underneath and a pretty necklace

I recommend a chambray shirt *unless you are wearing blue jeans. then just stick with a white collared shirt**

If you don't have a chambray shirt because you don't think you need one, you're wrong. Seriously buy one right now, it's such an amazing wardrobe staple.

The collar gives the sweater a  polished look, and the necklace makes it a little more feminine and adds your own touch to it. Also the layering of two wearing two shirts will keep you warmer! You look professional in a casual setting without trying very hard. If you're not a fan of necklaces, or you don't have anything that looks good with the outfit, then try a pretty scarf!

Boring outfit #2: The tunic and leggings

It's a nice day, and you're looking to wear something light and cute. You see a lot people rocking this look, but it never seems to look right on you. If it's not done right, this actually looks more like pajamas than street clothes, so what can you do?

Easy fix: A Statement necklace and a belt

This looks needs a ton of accessorizing to work right. Belting the top gives you a better shape and a big necklace makes it look like you're actually trying to impress people! If you don't have any great statement necklaces, you'll definitely need a loud printed scarf. **(Another important note about this outfit is that it's very hard to work with flats, because they're so casual. You'll need either a heel, wedge, or boot to make this advice work. If you're going to do it with flats, I'd recommend having at least one professional aspect to the outfit-either wear a collar tunic, or a tank tunic with a pretty cardigan over it)**

Boring outfit #3: The T-Shirt and Jeans

Heathered Linen V-Neck Tee

This is the one outfit I'm pretty sure everyone has in their closet somewhere. It's so classic, and yet so boring. It's comfortable and safe, but that's really it. You don't really feel especially confident or pretty in it, but you're not sure where to start to fix it.

Easy fix: A neutral blazer and tons of accessories

Blazers are NOT reserved for business meetings and interviews! Wearing one with a t-shirt is super fun and casual. Also make to accessorize with a pretty necklace (or scarf) and bracelets. (Extra points for wearing a fun colored belt!) This look is especially great because you can do it with pretty much any footwear with ease.

Week of 10/20/13-10/26/13- The new everyday purse

What's out: Over branded Michael Kors bags

Michael Kors has become insanely popular within the past few years. You couldn't go anywhere in 2011 without seeing a girl with one of these on her arm. Personally, I don't entirely hate everything Michael Kors. I like the design of their solid colored bags, but I never felt like they were worth splurging on. I just don't like anything covered in logos.

Such as:

What's in: Simple sleek nylon hobos

These bags are certainly the new MK bags! The first time I saw these I thought they where only made by Longchamp, but I think as they've gotten more popular other brands have started making them too. Every time I go out anywhere I see tons of these! I do prefer this trend, but I doubt I'll be getting one anytime soon.

Personal Recommendation:

My personal recommendation is honestly neither of the two. If you're going to invest in an expensive bag, get something timeless, like a nice leather bag that will go with just about anything!

These are my personal favorites (the brown J.Crew, the black from Kate Spade)
